Pandemic fatigue combined with seasonal autumn blues clouds many peoples minds. Time to remember the positive feelings which are so beneficial to our mental and physical health. Time to listen, watch, look at, or read mementos of these feelings.

Time to listen to ones musical favorites, which can be anything from Bach fugues to Indian Ragas, Gospel hymns, Flamencos, Tangos, Alpine yodeling, or Mongolian throat singing.

Time to watch the birds as they prepare for the cold and dark days of winter. Time to make a quiet walk in the forest. Time to read the books of wisdom and the stories of resilience. Time to recite softly some of the following words: content, satisfaction, fulfillment, happiness, harmony, pleasure, cheerfulness, joy, gladness, delight, gratification, ease, comfort, restfulness, well-being, peace, calm, equanimity, serenity, tranquillity.

And as you listen to music, or watch nature, or read a book, or speak one of these words, remember the associated feeling, relax, smile, breathe effortlessly, and let the feeling take over your body.

You my say: But how can I feel happiness and peace, when my most primal urges are unfulfilled, when the cold winds of adversity, injustice, discrimination, and exclusion blow in my face, when misfortune and loneliness make me suffer?

And the distant blogger can only respond: You share your fate with billions of fellow humans and trillions of fellow living beings. Life is suffering, the four Noble Truths of Buddhism still stand.

But why should you make your life even more miserable with desperation, distress, and agony? This will not help you, it will only make you sick. Feeling content and being calm doesn’t mean that you give up the fight for a better future, it rather helps you endure and gives you strength to improve your life.

Something completely different:

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s comments to the Valdai Club about a possible military alliance with China raised eyebrows. Asked about the possibility of such an alliance, Putin remarked that, “we don’t need it, but, theoretically it’s possible to imagine it.” Putin pointed to recent joint Russian-Chinese military exercises as evidence of the two countries’ growing cooperation, and noted that Russia has provided China with modern technology to enhance its military power. Speaking of a possible alliance, Putin concluded that, “time will show how it will develop.”

Somewhat similar ideas were coming out of the mouth of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In response to the threat of more EU sanctions, Lavrov commented:

The people who are responsible for Western foreign policy do not understand the need for mutually respectful dialogue, we probably have to suspend dialogue with them for a while. Especially since Ursula von der Leyen [President of the European Commission] is saying that geopolitical cooperation with the current Russian authorities is not working. So let it be if that’s what they want.”

The pivot to Asia is an inevitable product not only of the rise of China but also of the fact that Europe is governed by international institutions established during the Cold War, most notably the EU (European Union) and NATO. These are by their very natures incapable of including the Russian Federation.

There is, it seems, a growing realization in Russia that it will never be accepted as an equal partner and that the struggle for recognition by the West is pointless.

And yet, Putin declared in an interview aired on the Rossiya-1 TV channel: “I’ll say it once again: we have no need to fight the American presence [in Afghanistan]… The US presence in Afghanistan still contributes … to stability in that country.”

Russia has long been supportive of the presence of US troops in Afghanistan as it believes they contribute to the region’s stability and ultimately aid Russia’s national interests, and it has also been sharing counterterrorism intelligence. In one instance described by Putin, Russia helped the US retrieve an American citizen arrested in Syria on espionage charges. This person was transferred to Moscow and handed over to US officials.

Putin said: “The cooperation, which is mutually beneficial, could be even better, but we are still satisfied with it as it is.”

This after US support for the mujahideen (Operation Cyclone – Charlie Wilson’s war) brought down Mohammad Najibullah, the most humane leader Afghanistan ever had, and ultimately led to the takeover of the Taliban and Najibullah’s murder!

One can only hope, that Putin didn’t mean it for real.

The current state of the coronavirus pandemic suggests that Russia can learn and benefit from China much more than from the West.

Incompetence, bureaucratic overreach, corruption, cronyism, and crime do exist in most countries, but China does something against it. The anti-graft campaign, which started with the National Congress of the Communist Party in 2012, is still going on with 485.000 officials punished in 2019 (among them top securities regulator Liu Shiyu).

US blatant corruption, called euphemistically lobbying or campaign financing, would not be tolerated in China.

One should not forget, that social responsibility, solidarity, and compassion are part of communist ideology, though Chinese political culture is probably more determined by the 5,000 year old history of Chinese civilization (Confucius, Lao-Tsu) with its emphasis on duty, commitment, and discipline.

The exemplary success of China in reducing poverty could be a model not only for Russia but also most other nations, while the environmental record is nothing the Chinese leadership can be proud of.

Habitat destruction, chemical or radioactive contamination, unsustainable exploitation of resources, and bind faith in technological progress unfortunately characterize both Chinese and Russian economic policies.

Maybe President Xi Jinping and the Politburo Standing Committee one day will have a change of hearts in the face of looming ecological disaster. One can only hope that it will not be too late then.

People save money, probably not only in the USA but also in other rich Western countries. They should not save into bank accounts or hoard banknotes. Inflation, inevitable after trillions of stimulus money were created out of nothing by the central banks, will devalue all savings denominated in fiat currency.

Good news for all. If the billionaires earn more they can employ more people and pay higher wages. How could inequality be a problem? Just ask the superrich politely to pay more taxes and fund community projects instead of election campaigns. And if that doesn’t help, pay stimulus money to everybody so that people can buy more stuff and factories can produce more and economic growth with higher profits will trickle down to even the poorest.

Pandemic news:

Every person with some common sense and logical thinking ability predicted a second wave but no government prepared for it.

In most countries authorities didn’t restrict super-spreader events, like schools, day care centers, overcrowded buses or trains, they didn’t spend money to make places pandemic-proof with shields or capable ventilation systems equipped with HEPA filters, and they didn’t hire more health workers. Health care workers worldwide suffer from COVID-19 14 times more often than the general population and are exhausted and dispirited. Many have resigned.

Outbreaks in nursing homes, refugee shelters, and prisons are reportedly increasing again. Is this a covert policy to reduce overpopulation?

According to the US CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the pandemic caused 299,000 more US deaths than in a typical year. Two-thirds of the excess deaths are from the disease itself and one-third from other causes. Covid-19 has taken a disproportionate toll on Latinos and Blacks, but, surprisingly, also has struck 25- to 44-year-olds hard.

Imperial news:

Republican Senator Mitt Romney complained about “rabid” attacks from both sides. “The world is watching America with abject horror; more consequentially, our children are watching. Many Americans are frightened for our country — so divided, so angry, so mean, so violent.”

Rudeness and viciousness of US public discourse are only a symptom of a brutal and cruel society, where competition (cutthroat capitalism, social Darwinism), deception (Hollywood, bombastic TV-shows, ubiquitous advertising, propaganda by Edward Bernays’ disciples), and indifference (inequality, racism, insufficient health care and social security) are the norm.

What else would one expect from a nation which was built upon the genocide of native Americans and the slave labor of kidnapped Africans?

What else would one expect from a nation with the biggest military, the highest military spending (all funds included some 1 trillion US$), and the worldwide greatest number of firearms in civilian possession? The Pentagon is the worlds largest employer with 3.2 million on its payroll. There are 800 military bases spread all around the globe.

The USA has overtly or covertly intervened in 190 countries and is at the moment involved in some 130 military conflicts. The USA is the only nation who ever launched nuclear bombs. The USA ignores international law and even threatens the ICC and various UN organizations.

There is no sugarcoating around this and some nicer words will not change the character of US society. It is good that the uncivilized bickering in the election frenzy makes people around the world aware of the true “American spirit.”

We have to thank Trump for exposing the true nature of US America.

And yet, one should never generalize. There were and still are great US personalities, Nobel laureates, artists, and visionaries. Writers like Mark Twain, Upton Sinclair, Jack London, Ernest Hemingway, Kurt Vonnegut. I enjoyed at one point in my life the small town stories of Garrison Keillor. His Lake Wobegon is now probably “flyover country” and in 2017 Keillor was undone by MeToo.

African American Music (jazz, blues, R&B, gospel, soul) is arguably the greatest US contribution to world culture. It shows how diversity can spawn ingenious artistic expressions. Many of the most celebrated musicians though had a tragic end.

OWS (Occupy Wall Street) fizzled out. BLM (Black Lives Matter) seems to be strong at the moment and one can only hope that it doesn’t fade away like OWS. Unfortunately there are many individuals, who use the protests to riot, loot, or just let off steam, and they discredit the cause.

The peace movement it represented by a few unwavering activists. On September 30 Ardeth Platte, Dominican nun and antinuclear activist, died at 84. Sister Ardeth spent years behind bars for her beliefs.

The US budget deficit will reach 3.1 trillion US$ in 2020.

https://thesaker.is/western-lockdown-to-shut-down-china/
This article makes many valid points but in the last third of the text mixes in a bold conspiracy speculation. Lockdowns are not a ploy to ruin China (though Western policy makers for sure would be quite happy if it would work out this way), but a desperate measure of last resort after the governments have run out of ideas how to slow the pandemic. China btw had the strictest lockdowns of all countries.
The mentioned “great reseat” or “green new deal” are just conceptual ideas to appease worried citizens who realize that the relentless poisoning, exploitation, and destruction of the worlds ecosystems leads straight to catastrophe. The distinction between “industrial capitalism” in China and “financial capitalism” in the West is also not that clear and there are other factors than geopolitical rivalry in play.

News from cat land:

My 12 year old cat girl Wendy has recovered, the anti-worming pill apparently did help. She regularly occupies now Princess Min Ki’s favorite resting place, but the Princess has already found another quiet location. Gandhi Jr. rests mainly in aunt Rosy’s favorite basket. Rosy sadly disappeared in spring and he surely is missing her.

I will stop ordering food deliveries because stocks are now sufficient to last one year. In fall 2021 it should be apparent how the pandemic pans out, if the old normal is restored somehow, or if everything has to be reorganized and rebuilt from scratch.

Just imagine:

A new vision of sustainable, frugal technology, a new localized economy, a new regenerative agriculture, a new harmonious and cooperative integration with nature, a new equitable social contract based on love and respect, and new direct democratic institutions.

Aren’t that exciting prospects? Isn’t that something worth to fight for? Ain’t it justified to plan and prepare for such a development?

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be tweeted.
The revolution will not be posted on Facebook, Telegram, or YouTube.
The revolution will maybe topple a tyrant and replace him with another one.
Beyond that, the revolution will not change anything.

The evolution will quietly, slowly, and steadily change everything.

In the morning, you will anxiously peek through the curtains to see if there is still a world outside. And there will be a world, but it will be strange and unfamiliar to you. It will be a world without cars, trucks, airplanes, and other noisy machines. A world without people busily running back and forth in their pursuit of wealth and fame. A world without flickering pictures on screens of all kinds and sizes. A world without advertising, blinking lights, blaring loudspeakers, without revving engines and honking, without jackhammers and sirens, without the hammering and banging from nearby factories. A world without an abundance of stuff which we have to throw away constantly to make space for new stuff.

The evolution will change everything. It will make us change too, or make us disappear. We will either learn, adjust, and adapt, or go extinct like so many species before us. If we are able to change, it will be a new life, strange and unfamiliar. It will be a life reminiscent of indigenous cultures and ancient matriarchal societies.

Was there ever a time in history, when humans didn’t try to conquer new territory, didn’t try to exploit, enslave, or kill their fellow animals?

Was there ever a time in human history, when people pursued the growth of happiness instead of the growth of the GDP?

Initially I wanted to write a flaming appeal to the readers that they should avoid media brainwashing. It would have been something like this:

Establishment media channels report warnings and threats which endanger the consumerist lifestyle which we are accustomed to. The outrageous stories about injustice, neglect, abuse, and environmental destruction are seldom told, and occasional background analyses are only distracting, whitewashing, misleading, and never revealing the real culprits (the parasitic rentier / billionaire class, the sociopathic warmongers, and their unscrupulous minions).

Propaganda ops for wars (including the relentless war on nature), advertising for useless products, and shallow, trivial, goofy memes fill the screens, airwaves, and pages.

Don’t waste even one second of your life on this, also don’t fall for conspiracy PsyOps, use your intelligence, common sense, and logical thinking. Search for trustworthy sources and ignore the narrative fluff of mainstream media.

But when I read the first draft I was deeply embarrassed. How pompous, arrogant, overbearing, and pontifical did it come over. How could I dare to write something like this despite my own privileged life and my own significant shortcomings? Who was I to tell anybody anything about supposed media indoctrination and propaganda lies?

And yet, to the truth seekers and the ones who aim for a harmonious, sustainable life and a legacy our descendants will be proud of (I suppose most of the blog readers fall into this category), here are some links, pointers, cues, hints you may find interesting.

Take or ignore and shun them, read the post or forget about it, subscribe or cancel.

Environmental news:

A typical mainstream media piece filled with platitudes like:
Radical change is both necessary and possible.
Some economists say we cannot keep growing on a planet of finite resources.
Could working less help us shift the focus from obsessive consumption and build alternatives to our carbon-heavy lifestyles?
But also some interesting points:

In India, grassroots activists are integrating better management of resources into systems of communal decision-making that draw on swaraj, a philosophy of self-rule.
Is Derrick Jensen right to argue that human civilization is inherently destructive?

Economic news:

US unemployment is still increasing, but some papers report, that US car sales surge. Tesla reported record deliveries, growing interest in electric vehicles and SUVs allegedly boost sales across the industry.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tried to make a deal with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to rescue the airline industry.

The WTO (World Trade Organization) gives the European Union permission to tax up to 4 billion US$ of US products annually in retaliation for subsidies given to Boeing by the US government.

The WTO warns that towards the end of the year, there might be a setback as second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic are reported worldwide. Europe and North America have the most profound decline as exports contracted 24.5 percent and 21.8 percent.

The WTO considers that “the forecast for next year is more pessimistic than the previous estimate of 21.3 percent growth, leaving merchandise trade well below its pre-pandemic trend.”

Technology, media, and propaganda news:

AT&T’s WarnerMedia is preparing a restructuring that seeks to reduce costs by as much as 20 percent because the coronavirus pandemic drains income from movie tickets, cable subscriptions, and TV advertising.

The measures are expected to begin in the coming weeks and they will result in thousands of dismissals across Warner Bros. studios and TV channels like HBO, TBS, and TNT. This is sad for the employees but not a terrible loss for everyone else, even if WarnerMedia completely shuts down permanently. They produce an endless barrage of garbage programming that is corrupting the minds of millions of media consumers, and  society would definitely be better off without them.

Or is this just a plea to the government for extra money to save this system stabilizing industry?

C.J.: The ruling class and its lackeys are secretly terrified that one day the ordinary people they despise will awaken from their propaganda trance and realize the power of their numbers.

Pandemic news:

Klaus Schwab, executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), coauthored with Thierry Malleret a new book The Great Reset, which can be regarded as a sequel to his earlier book The Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Schwab’s elitist Davos-man utopia is a trans-human, socially distanced, utterly soulless dystopia. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson eagerly took the cue and, using the phrase “Build Back Better,” insisted that this is the time to launch Britain’s “Fourth Industrial Revolution.” “From internet shopping to working from home, it looks as though Covid has massively accelerated changes in the world of work… as old jobs are lost and as new ones are created… The Covid crisis is a catalyst for change.”

Johnson foresees a future in which every home in Britain relies on wind power, and “instead of being dragged on big commutes to the city” people can “start a business in their home town… and bring up their children in the neighborhoods where they grew up themselves.”

Working from home is here to stay, with gigabit broadband, shopping from home, conferencing from home… in fact, let’s do everything from home. Who needs to meet other human beings? Not that there’d be any places to meet, as pubs, cinemas, and theaters are all closed down due to pandemic-induced restrictions.

The “founding partners” of the WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution include names such as Microsoft, Palantir, Facebook, Netflix, and Gavi (The Vaccine Alliance, launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation).

Hi-tech Internet corporations and hi-tech multi-billionaires supporting a big shift towards a stay-at-home, “do everything on the Internet” society. It couldn’t be more logical and convenient.

More than 20 US states have hit a new high in their seven-day average of reported case counts. Midwestern states like Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio are driving the surge, while states farther west — like Colorado, Idaho and the Dakotas — have seen their cases rise steadily for weeks.

Imperial news:

Ardeth Platte, Dominican nun and antinuclear activist, died at 84, just days after participating in a demonstration against nuclear weapons. Sister Ardeth spent years behind bars for her beliefs.

In 2010, Platte was arrested for trespassing at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. At her sentencing, Platte said, “Nuclear weapons are the taproot of violence, and they must be abolished. So I refuse to be silent.” She served a four-month sentence. It was one of several arrests over many years of anti-war protests.

63 million US Americans filed new claims for unemployment benefits since the coronavirus lockdowns began in mid-March. But the pain is not evenly distributed. US billionaires got even richer in the pandemic, they own now 3.6 trillion US$.

According to the latest Fed data, the top 1 percent of US Americans have a combined net worth of 34.2 trillion US$ (or 30.4 percent of all household wealth), while the bottom 50 percent of the population holds just 2.1 trillion US$ (or 1.9 percent of all wealth).

A “Back-to-Normal Barometer” survey by “Sports $ Leisure Research” found that 61 percent agree with the concern that the USA could be on the verge of another Civil War. 52 percent of consumers have stockpiled food or essential goods in anticipation of social unrest in the coming months.

A YouGov poll of 1,999 registered voters found that nearly half (47 percent) disagree with the idea that the election “is likely to be fair and honest.” And that slightly more than half (51 percent) won’t “generally agree on who is the legitimately elected president of the United States.

C.J.: Part of the problem is that Hollywood has conditioned people to think that where there are bad guys, there must be good guys around to oppose them. So they look for one and find Trump or Biden. But there are no good guys in a system that’s rigged to only let in corrupt assholes.

Since 2011 this blog here has fought an arduous and often dispiriting struggle against anti-Syria propaganda. It is not a lonely struggle anymore, as the numbers of doubters rise, but Syria is devastated and half a million people have died.
Will there be justice for this crime against humanity? Will the violence, which the Western alliance projected on other nations one day be reflected back, causing the self-destruction of the empire?

Imperial conquest news:

Cindy Sheehan writes:
After 19 years, and at least a half dozen more US foreign military crimes, it doesn’t look like Covid-19 will kill US Imperialism. When millions of us are out of work, losing our homes and other security, the billionaires and politicians are not losing anything — not even the support of most Americans who are lining up behind the one War Criminal or the other War Criminal. This is the 5th US election since 2001 and nothing changes for the better whether we contemplate foreign or domestic policies.

News from cat land:

Apples, peaches, berries, tomatoes, and grapes are all harvested, only the Cyclanthera pedata (caigua) has to wait a few days longer. I know from experience that these vines grow their fruits tenaciously until it gets really cold. The fruits look like little cucumbers and I like them very much — they also have an antioxidant effect. One shouldn’t eat the seeds, which look like small pieces of wood.

This year my two Cornus mas (European cornel) shrubs had the highest yield ever. The fruits taste a bit sour and one should only plug and consume the ones which are completely ripe. I blend them with some honey and they are an important contribution to my muesli (which by many people will not be considered as muesli because I use only herbal tee instead of milk).

It is getting colder and the cat family gathers around the stove and around me.

My 12 year old cat girl Wendy is ailing and I worry. She has lost weight and I can feel her rips when I fondle her. I hope that it is only a worm infection just like it was the case with Princess Min Ki. I gave Wendy an anti-worm pill, which was quite a hassle, and hope now that she gets better. Somehow, when I sit beside her or when she rests on my lap, it feels like her life is slipping through my fingers.

I still can make her purr. Yesterday evening I had her in my arms and she purred softly, apparently completely happy. I intended to hold and pet her as long as she was purring, but after half an hour with no sign that she would stop I had to go to bed.

Dream sweet dreams, me dear friend,” I said. “I’m always with you and I love you.”

I slept very well tonight.
